“Growth is Weird, Wobbly, and Wonderful: Embrace the Awkward!”

Let’s be honest: growth is kind of like puberty. It’s awkward, uncomfortable, sometimes painful, and often involves a lot of weird noises and confused looks. But just like puberty, it’s also necessary, powerful, and leads to something amazing.

At Seed, we’re all about helping people build skills, reach goals, and live fuller lives. But here’s the truth bomb: growth doesn’t always feel good. In fact, sometimes it feels like trying to do yoga in jeans; tight, restrictive, and slightly humiliating.

Why Is Growth So Uncomfortable?

Because it stretches us. Literally and figuratively.

  • You’re learning something new.
  • You’re stepping outside your comfort zone.
  • You’re challenging old habits.
  • You’re facing fears (like asking for help, trying something unfamiliar, or “gasp” failing in public).

Growth pokes at our insecurities and whispers, “Hey, you don’t know how to do this yet.” And our brains, being the drama queens they are, respond with, “PANIC!”

But here’s the twist: discomfort is a sign that you’re doing something brave.

How to Overcome the Hurdles (Without Crying into Your Cereal)

  1. Name the discomfort: Say it out loud. “This feels hard.” “I’m nervous.” “I’m not sure I can do this.” Naming it takes away its power.
  2. Break it down: Big goals are like giant sandwiches; overwhelming if you try to eat them all at once. Slice them into bite-sized pieces.
  3. Celebrate the wobbles: Every time you try and fail, you’re learning. Every time you feel awkward, you’re growing. Every time you say, “I don’t get it,” you’re opening the door to understanding.
  4. Trust your team: When we push you, it’s not because we want to see you squirm. It’s because we believe in you. We see your potential, even when you don’t.
  5. Laugh at the mess: Growth is messy. You might trip over your own feet, forget what you were doing, or accidentally call your support worker “Mum.” It’s okay. Laugh. Learn. Keep going.

Embrace the Awkward Phase (Yes, Even the Cringe)

You know that moment when a baby takes their first steps? They wobble, fall, giggle, and try again. No one says, “Well, that was embarrassing.” We cheer. We clap. We celebrate.

You deserve that same celebration.

So if you’re in the middle of a growth spurt, learning a new skill, building confidence, trying something new, embrace the awkward. Wear it like a badge of honour. Because it means you’re moving forward.

And remember: growth isn’t about being perfect. It’s about being brave enough to try.
